Segundo o próprio Ecclestone, este não concorda com o presidente da FIA sobre os motores de 4 cilindros turbo de 1.6 litros que Jean Todt tanto publicita. Todt porem diz que é importante aceitarem a mudança - a F1 tem que se mais verde.
Citando directamente:"Already I hear about the noise, but that’s evolution. Two decades ago, you had a 12-cylinder engine, now you have only 2.4 litre V8 … I think it’s very important that F1, being the pinnacle of motor racing, takes on board the evolution of society. It will be definitely greener, with the introduction of more technologies in the future.” Ou seja, evoluir faz parte do jogo.
A resposta de Bernie? Referiu-se a Todt como “a poor man’s Max.” Citando: “He (Todt) has been travelling around the world doing what Max didn’t do too much — kissing the babies and shaking the hands.” Disse que Todt não tem um efeito positivo na F1 e referiu-se ao esforços verdes de Todt como, e citando directamente: “a complete joke”. Ecclestone desdenha as regras deste ano como o KERS e a asa traseira ajustavel.
“We should write the rules with the teams. The competitors have got to race and have got a big investment. We have got a big investment. It (the FIA) should be like the police — the police don’t write the rules and say you’ve got to do 30 miles an hour. The FIA is a joke”.
